The Bagh-Safa Project is situated at a prominent urban intersection overlooking an old bridge of the same name, which spans the Dry river of Shiraz. Over time, this once-pedestrian zone has transformed into a major vehicular junction. As a result of successive street widenings, the remaining site has acquired a multifaceted and irregular geometry, diverging from conventional urban plots.

The primary design strategy was based on maximizing the spatial potential of the existing form and eliminating peripheral structural obstructions. By removing the external columns and redefining the structural framework, the design sought to liberate the perimeter and generate a dynamic, continuous façade. Consequently, the transformation of the building’s edge—from rigid, fractured lines into soft, fluid curves—produced a slipped mass configuration, creating elevated terraces along the office levels. These terraces enable the development of a vertical green density, integrating vegetation and open space across multiple levels of the building.

This morphological transformation of the façade introduces diverse perceptual perspectives from different vantage points around the intersection, enhancing the building’s visual and spatial engagement with its urban surroundings. Simultaneously, the internal reconfiguration of the floor plans allows for multiple spatial organizations and a variety of visual connections to the exterior context.

Materially, brick was selected as the dominant façade element, employed to articulate a gradient of controlled porosity across the envelope. This strategy maintains formal continuity while ensuring adequate daylight penetration and spatial permeability. Thus, the Bagh-Safa Project stands as an exploration of the intersection between urban density, vertical greenery, and formal continuity, redefining a site caught between the pressures of infrastructural expansion and the desire for spatial and environmental resilience.
